The Accident Investigation Bureau has announced that it recovered the Black Box of the Bristow helicopter that crashed into the Lagos lagoon on August 12, Wedneday.
Felix Abali, the commissioner of the bureau, announced this on August 14, Friday, while displaying the two devices to aviation correspondents at the bureau’s headquarters in Lagos.
It would be recalled that six of the 12 people on the helicopter died when the tragedy happened. Among the dead were the pilot and the co-pilot whose bodies were found on Thursday.
The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, Bristow Helicopters Limited has released the names of the flight crew in the ill-fated helicopter.
According to Tunji Olugbodi, the company’s media officer, the crew among the casualties comprised of Captain Joseph “Jay” Wyatt of Oklahoma, the USA, and First Officer Peter Bello, Nigeria.
A day earlier, the management of the company released an official statement in which they promised to assist survivors and families of the dead victims.
The statement signed by Duncan Moore, the company’s regional director for Africa, said that their thoughts were with those affected by the unfortunate accident.
