Stars Bonus Reduces by 50%

The Black Stars wining bonus of $10,000 has been hit by a 50% reduction in an attempt to resolve the team's remuneration row, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS understands.

Sources at the Youth and Sports Ministry suggested that the country's sports governing body will soon officially come out and make pronouncements on the pay cut.

The revised bonus structure will see the playing body pocketing $5,000 each as winning bonus per match, while management committee members will receive $1,000 each as winning bonuses.

That, indeed, contradicts government's White Paper on the World Cup Commission of Inquiry which proposed a negotiation approach with the playing and management bodies regarding their purse.

The probable slash has angered some officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who indicated that the reform could have a telling effect on the team.
To them, the approach to the reform is more of an imposition (take it or leave it) rather than sitting at the negotiation table to jaw-jaw with the parties involved.

The issue of player remuneration in the senior national soccer team has plagued the four-time African champions, and indications are that the reform is a move to find a lasting solution to the problem.

Until the World Cup qualifiers in the mid 2000s, the winning bonus was $5,000 and it was increased to $8,000 for making a first time World Cup appearance in 2006 when Germany hosted the Mundial.

Later, a cool $2,000 was added for the 2010 World Cup campaign, making it $10,000 an amount they enjoyed until the Brazil 2014 World Cup which was rocketed to $15,000.
